Today's newsletter is a test to see if you all prefer receiving emails at a fixed time. For two consecutive weeks, Gut Talk Newsletter has been sent on Wednesday mornings. Today, I'm specially testing sending in the evening to see if there's a difference in results ~ I think it's so much fun! Managing a personal brand is like your own playground—interesting, being yourself, sharing insights, and helping others.
This time I'm sharing insights about positioning with you. Remember, Gut Talk Newsletter content is like something you'd have to pay for, so make sure you read all the way to the end!
👩🎨 The me that others know is not the real me, just a life artwork I created.
Since it's an artwork, why not have a great time playing with it, fooling around freely, and just having fun?
A few days ago, my MMG (Mastermind Group for maintaining business operations)my great partner, Azi,shared a recent major discovery. She found that her past style differs greatly from her current style, including fashion, hairstyle, tattoos, curation philosophy, and personality.
She discovered that as long as she keeps adding elements she likes to herself, eventually people will think that's just how she's always been. But actually, that's not how her style was before. So she believes what she presents to others is like an artwork, and since it's an artwork, why can't she adjust it freely and sculpt it into whatever form she wants?

After hearing that, I completely became a believer in Azi's philosophy. Thinking back to my past self, my experiences include:
- Crazy band vocalist, street performer, bar residency singer
- Running a one-person event company, organizing activities like camping, diving, river trekking, surfing, hosting book clubs and wine tastings
- Developed camping woodcraft products, worked as a tour guide, tutored animation
- Even a video game cheat magazine contributor, esports player of niche games
- During student years was a clown character, class jester who slowed the teacher's pace, served as various club officer
- In front of dominant people, someone willing to lower her stature
- When cornered in difficult situations, someone who makes cold-blooded decisions and shoulders the responsibility alone
- A life drama queen who perfectly embodies whatever role she plays

Me with so many facets, yet now I position myself as a Knowledge blogger—does that mean those versions of me are no longer me?
They're still all me! It's just that in the artwork I'm presenting to the public right now, I haven't temporarily incorporated those elements into this painting.
Inspired by Azuki, the next day I was singing like crazy at home to songs my old band used to play—Inyouchuu's 'Koga Ninpo Chou,' the Bleach anime's 'Rolling Star,' and Haruhi Suzumiya's 'God Knows.' The me swaying my head at indie band concerts was also me, and the me reading, doing Knowledge Management, taking online courses, sharing value, and researching AI every day at home is also me.
Plus, after listening to the book 'Positioning' recently (notes below~), I'm rethinking the brand positioning of KnowledgeGut.
「Knowledge Management' positioning, there are many seniors in Taiwan you'd think of immediately, like the founder of Computer Play Things. I originally wanted to dominate user mindshare in the 'approachable Knowledge Management' positioning, but I realized that I'm a more multifaceted, abundant person—Knowledge Management is only a small part of me, Xiaochang (perhaps because I'm a Reflector in Human Design?).
After thinking it over and over, I feel I'm very suited to being a 'multipotentialite' positioning, because although I usually have a short attention span, I can quickly learn a new skill and achieve results in a short period of time.
For example, Iwrote my first articleand it was shared by over 50 people, becoming a viral post; I wrote aten-thousand-word Heptabase tutorialand it reached the first page for the keyword within 24 hours; I had a day job before, yet built this beautifulblog。
in just two weeks that you see now. I really do learn things fast, and all these accomplishments made me realize I'm not just a Knowledge creator—I can influence far more people than I imagined. I think that's the magic of being a multipotentialite.
So I'm thinking about whether I can slightly adjust my overall personal brand positioning to become a '#multipotentialite' advocate.
So that when future users think of 'multipotentialite,' they think of 'Xiaochang,' not anyone else.
I'll share this terminology with you all in detail in the future~
Plus, the reading circle retreats I'm currently planning are also perfect for fellow multipotentialites like me—those with short attention spans who need companionship. All these thoughts were inspired by Azuki's idea of life as an art piece, and it feels particularly meaningful.
📍 Positioning Notes Shared with You

1️⃣ Fundamental Concepts of Positioning
Positioning is an 'advantage position' established in the 'customer's mind' against 'competitors.'
Positioning has three elements:
- Start from competitors and differentiate from them.
- Establish your own advantage position, finding the weaknesses in competitors' strengths.
- Must enter the customer's mind. Three methods are as follows:
❶ Be first, be different. (This is why I want to shift from 'Knowledge Management' to 'multipotentialite')
❷ Connect with the first brand, take second place.
❸ Ride the trending wave, climb higher, redefine.
2️⃣ Leader Positioning
- Don't be a 'hidden champion': if your advantages can't be displayed, they become a burden.
- Transform from a 'passive' role to an 'active' role: demonstrate your own 'value'.
3️⃣ How to Solidify Leader Position
- Continuously promote the value of the entire category: educate the market, elevate awareness and value of the whole category.
- Quickly intercept competitor attacks: promptly respond to competitors' market strategies.
- Use multiple brands to intercept competitors: occupy different market segments with different brands to defend against competitors.
4️⃣ Consumer Psychology
People always sympathize with the weak but buy from (support) the strong: understanding consumer psychology helps with brand positioning.
5️⃣ Follower Positioning
If you're not the market leader, you can find your own positioning by identifying market gaps:
- Size gaps (large → small / small → large): shifting from the large car market to the small car market.
- Price gaps (high → low / low → high): category repositioning, not price reduction promotions.
- Gender gaps: products targeting specific genders, such as men's facial cleanser.
- Market gaps (online → offline / offline → online): well-known e-commerce brands opening physical stores.
6️⃣ Repositioning Competitors
If you can't find a gap, reposition the competitor instead, leveraging their weaknesses to strengthen your own advantages.
📚 Actually, I was originally planning to share a different book

But my energy was suddenly energized by yesterday's MMG meeting, which led to today's complete sharing. So I recommend that whenever you have inspiration, output or record it as quickly as possible! Otherwise, after a few days you'll have new insights, and the quality of that output may shift (not necessarily for better or worse).
I'm currently still using the method I taught you in the first Gut Talk Newsletter for my output. Readers who didn't receive the email can go tohereget my developed input/output AI prompts.
📚 One-Minute Quick Notes
🧠 What Xiaochang wants to share with you today is the 'Franklin Effect'
Have you ever experienced a change in your impression of someone you didn't particularly like after they asked you for help?
Once you've helped someone with even a small thing, you subconsciously believe that since you chose to help them, they can't be that bad. Though this creates internal conflict, you'll still convince yourself the person isn't actually bad, generating goodwill and affection toward them and changing your view of them, making it harder for us to take action against them.
This is the Franklin Effect, a method of leveraging requests for help to build strong interpersonal relationships.
So in the future, we should not only actively help others, but also ask others for help. This mutual assistance is what truly builds good and friendly relationships!
So can I ask you to help me share the #Gut Talk Golden Quotes below to social media? (Hilarious XD)
💭 A Thought Question for You (feel free to reply)
Think about it: have you ever experienced someone being particularly friendly to you after you actively asked them for help?
I have! Especially at night markets, I always chat briefly with vendors and ask if they can help me dispose of trash or lend me a tissue or two. After friendly interaction, vendors sometimes spontaneously offer me extra samples or a 10-yuan discount. I think this touches on the essence of the Franklin Effect too~ 😏
