[Gut Talk #18] Six Months Ago He Couldn't Run an IG Account, Now His Social Media Earns 20 Million

✍️ Last Updated: October 21, 2025

Hey there! I'm Xiaochang 🌭
It's time for my weekly letter to grow a little together with you!

📈 Entrepreneur personally manages personal media, 20 million revenue in half a year

Last week I gathered with an entrepreneur friend who shared the Fandeng Reading app with me. Six months ago, he said he wanted to start managing an Instagram account. I remember he humbly asked many seniors in the field for advice. Six months later at our gathering, he told me his revenue has exceeded NT$20 million…

His social media management doesn't follow the knowledge niche—it's not about selling courses or taking sponsorships. He already had a 'high-ticket service,' and social media is just amplifying his traffic entry point for 'marketing.'

This conversation left a deep impression on me. He shared several business insights about social media:

  1. Breaking Down High-Ticket Services:
His high-ticket service was NT$30,000, originally just one product. But he discovered that Instagram traffic couldn't immediately pay NT$30,000 for the service. Even after in-person business meetings, they couldn't build enough trust to buy. So he immediately changed strategy, breaking the NT$30,000 service into NT$5,000 and NT$10,000 options. This price point let more people spend without even needing to meet him.
  2. Cute Mascot as IP:
His service is finance-related with quite technical and hard-to-understand content. To make it more accessible, he uses a cute pet mascot that everyone loves to interact with. This not only closes the distance quickly but also lets him call users the mascot's 'caretakers.' I think this design is really brilliant!
  3. Building a Business Ecosystem:
He designed a points system that lets users easily earn points, which they can spend at many partner stores (I heard major brands are joining recently!). His ecosystem design embodies what I love most: the 'win-win resource integration' ecosystem model. You can researchSichuan Airlines Business Model, which is my favorite business model diagram

My friend actually broke out of the social media circle and started realizing the ecosystem model in Taiwan. He also forced me to think: I'm a solo entrepreneur running a personal social media brand. I've learned so many 'business models,' so much about 'how to be an entrepreneur'—why must I force myself to be just a 'solo worker'?

When I first met Baohua, he brought betel nut and drinks. Because of him, I tried eating one betel nut!! Just one, and I threw up immediately XDD I have no idea why anyone would want to eat this stuff. He also brought me two of his books and signed them on the spot, making me feel this guy is super interesting and versatile!

⛷️ 11 Skills KnowledgeGut Believes You Should Learn in the AI Era

Last weekend I attended two consecutive days of Let's Talk Youth & Good Governance discussion events, "Competitor or Teammate? Workplace Redesign for the AI Era」&「AI-Era Fake News Showdown: Are You a Thug, Arbitrator, or Misinformation King?" were both all-day government events, absolutely mind-blowing! But so much fun—I could keep sharing ideas, thinking through the organizers' questions, constantly engaging my brain. It was so exhilarating!

Among them, there are a few questions where I felt my answers were quite good, and I'd like to share them with you:

Q: In the AI era, which skills do you think are most important to strengthen or learn?

  1. Logical reasoning skills
    • Fundamental skills like inductive and deductive reasoning must be trained.
  2. Critical thinking
    • You need to discern whether information is true or false, and what it means for you.
  3. Speed reading
    • You need to quickly read the content AI provides; otherwise, the amount of information to read daily increases while efficiency doesn't.
  4. Extracting key points
    • It's convenient to ask AI for summaries, sure, but ultimately you still need to synthesize what AI provides.
  5. How to learn quickly
    • Even with extracted content, you must have the ability to learn quickly and absorb knowledge rapidly.
  6. Self-care
    • I think as AI takes over many tasks, we humans will experience increasing inner depletion. Everyone needs to find their own way to be happy to cope with this fast-paced era!
  7. Building a personal knowledge base
    • With so much from AI and more to learn, you need a space to store all the knowledge you've personally filtered.
  8. Tracking AI trends
    • You don't need to master all of AI, but you must know what AI can do now so you can quickly connect new technology to your field.
  9. Philosophy
    • You must start contemplating the abstract 'meaning' in life; otherwise, you'll be pulled under by an ocean of anxiety.
  10. History
    • It helps you understand inconvenient human nature and the cyclical development of events.
  11. Curiosity
    • AI can tell you everything it knows, but if you don't even have the drive to ask or take action, then the AI era won't make any difference to your life.

Among these, I think there are several items that can be taught in the future Knowledge Management course! These 'fundamental skills' I've trained step by step, and they can be strengthened! I want to help you get stronger together.

The sequence is based on the ability-switching order I use daily: "Curiosity → AI provides information → Speed readingExtracting key pointsCritical thinkingQuick learningBuilding a personal knowledge baseLogical reasoning → Sustained curiosity" — these 7 points I want to share and practically train in the future course.
